Effect of Virtual Heartfulness Meditation and Yoga Program on Anxiety, Loneliness, and Satisfaction with Life in general US population

Wright State University in collaboration with Heartfulness Institute and Vivekananda Yoga University is conducting a study in the US on the combined effect of Heartfulness Meditation and Yoga on anxiety, loneliness, and satisfaction of life.

Who is eligible to participate in this study?

Any adult who is above 18 years old residing in the US with Basic knowledge of Internet and ability to follow instructions regarding email communications as well as accessing video conferences

Who is NOT eligible to participate in this study?

  1. Anyone with ≥ 100 hours of meditation experience

  2. Any person under medical care for depression or other mental health conditions are encouraged not to participate or to only participate after discussion with his/her healthcare provider, so that the study participation does not interfere with current treatment.

  3. Any person with physical limitation to perform yoga exercises are advised to seek guidance from his/her healthcare provider, so that study participation does not interfere with current treatment and does not put oneself at risk of any physical injury.  

How long is the study?

The study will last 6 weeks.

What are the potential benefits of taking part in the study?

Learning yoga, relaxation and meditation skills that are part of this study may help you to cope with stress better. Meditation is generally considered a safe activity and has been linked to many positive outcomes:

  1. Reduction of stress and burn out

  2. Improvement in sleep quality

  3. Increased inner contentment and peace

  4. Health benefits such as including improvement in cardiovascular health and blood pressure, increase heart-rate variability (which is sign of healthy heart), increase immunity, slowing of cognitive decline etc.

  5. Reduces anxiety and increase emotional stability

  6. Reduce loneliness

Will you be paid to participate in the research?

You will receive no payment for participating in this study.
