Heartful Communication is an initiative proposed by Daaji, with the aim of cultivating harmonious collaboration, mutual respect and care throughout the Heartfulness movement. All abhyasis, particularly functionaries, are invited to learn the approach and skills of ‘Nonviolent Communication’ (NVC) as a foundation for manifesting ”unity consciousness” in everyday, practical and interpersonal life.
Liz Kingsnorth, a Certified International NVC trainer, has been charged with setting up this program within Heartfulness/Sahaj Marg, worldwide.
• Watch the introduction to hear Liz as she shares Daaji’s vision on YouTube.
• Read Liz’ article, “10 Tips for Effective Communication” in Heartfulness Magazine.
Invitation to Begin
All abhyasis are encouraged to begin learning NVC – in their own country, in their own language – either independently, with friends, or together as a center. Here are some options for how you can begin:
Attend Workshops and Training held by NVC trainers, which are offered in many places and countries. To find one near you, research online, or go to the NVC global website for local trainer listings.
Take Online courses, for example at the NVC Academy:
Read Books: There are plenty of books by Marshall B. Rosenberg and other NVC trainers. These can be purchased in bookstores and online. Group discounts are available at the publisher: in the USA, Puddle Dancer Press; in India, Banyan Tree Books. We recommend:
Nonviolent Communication Companion Workbook (Lucy Leu)
Nonviolent Communication – a Language of Life (M.B. Rosenberg)
Watch on YouTube: Free videos of Marshall Rosenberg as he is training people in NVC. Some are short introductions, others cover complete workshops of several hours.
Practice & Ongoing Learning
NVC is simple in principle, but fluency requires practice, and integration of it can be a life long process. Even after having “learned” the structure and process of NVC, it takes repeated practice to form this into new habits. Over time, our relationship with ourselves and others may change to align with the assumption of unity, that lies at the core of NVC.
Individuals are encouraged to join Practice groups led by a local NVC trainer. This will support learning skills and forming new ways of thinking and interaction. Practice groups usually meet weekly or fortnightly and often use role-play to work on real-life challenges that group members are facing. Search online, or go to the CNVC global website for local trainer listings.
HFN Centers and sitting groups can form study circles, working with the books listed above. You can review one chapter per meeting, and discuss your understanding of key skills and principles and how they can be applied. You can also go through the Free 30-day Introduction to NVC as a group.
Heartful Communication Training
For those who would like to go further – beyond the basics – in their learning and integrating of Heartful Communication, we are planning in-house Training Retreats.
