Heartful Communication

NVC for the Heartfulness Meditation Community

Learning NVC/HC

Heartful Communication is NVC when shared within the Heartfulness Meditation Community

Heartful Communication will not change the fundamental NVC model. Therefore, you can learn the basics from any NVC trainer or program.

Heartful Communication makes NVC relevant to our shared spiritual path, through examples, principles and quotes from our teachers.

Invitation to Begin

All abhyasis are encouraged to begin learning NVC – in their own country, in their own language – either independently, with friends, or together as a center. Here are some options for how you can begin:

  • Attend Workshops and Training held by NVC trainers, which are offered in many places and countries. To find one near you, research online, or go to the NVC global website for local trainer listings.

  • Read Books: There are plenty of books by Marshall B. Rosenberg and other NVC trainers. These can be purchased in bookstores and online. Group discounts are available at the publisher: in the USA, Puddle Dancer Press; in India, Banyan Tree Books. We recommend:

    • Nonviolent Communication Companion Workbook (Lucy Leu)

    • Nonviolent Communication – a Language of Life (M.B. Rosenberg)

  • Watch on YouTube: Free videos of Marshall Rosenberg as he is training people in NVC. Some are short introductions, others cover complete workshops of several hours.

  • HFN Centers and sitting groups can form study circles, that meet regularly to discuss each member’s understanding of key concepts and principles and how these can be applied. The study group can work with the same books, online courses, or YouTube videos listed above.

Practice & Ongoing Learning

NVC is simple in principle, but fluency requires practice, and integration of it can be a life long process. Even after having “learned” the structure and process of NVC, it takes repeated practice to form this into new habits. Over time, our relationship with ourselves and others may change to align with the assumption of unity, that lies at the core of NVC.

  • Individuals are encouraged to join Practice groups led by a local NVC trainer. This will support learning skills and forming new ways of thinking and interaction. Practice groups usually meet weekly or fortnightly and often use role-play to work on real-life challenges that group members are facing. Search online, or go to the CNVC global website for local trainer listings.

  • HFN Centers and sitting groups can form study circles, working with the books listed above. You can review one chapter per meeting, and discuss your understanding of key skills and principles and how they can be applied. You can also go through the Free 30-day Introduction to NVC as a group.

  • Some Centers may want to hire an NVC trainer for either workshops or practice groups. For this, please contact HC steering team for directives.

Heartful Communication Training

In- House Training

For those who would like to go further – beyond the basics – in their learning and integrating of Heartful Communication, we offer

  • Immersion Training Retreats

  • Facilitators Training Program – currently by recommendation from ZiCs or CiCs, or by invitation

Retreats

We are planning 5-day training in retreat format at HFN centers, tentatively beginning late in 2019 at Molena Ashram in the USA. A schedule will be posted as it firms up.

The curriculum will be based on experiential learning interwoven with the key concepts, consciousness and skills of NVC. Participants will come away with a plan for how to make their new skills into habits, which in turn lays the ground for a new way of being with regard to the interpersonal process.

Topics will include:

  • Deep Listening

  • Developing Empathy for Self and Others

  • Transforming blame and judgment

  • Managing Reactivity

  • Heart-Centred Giving and Receiving Feedback

  • Authentic Self Expression with care

  • Making Effective Requests

  • Softening Anger

  • Transforming Conflict

These training retreats are open to HFN meditators (abhyasis) who have learned the basics of NVC.

Facilitator Training Program

At this time, HC Facilitator Training programs are being planned for India and for North America to launch in September 2019. Participation is by invitation, or by recommendation from ZiCs or CiCs.
