About

“I believe the principles and techniques of Nonviolent Communication can literally change the world, but more importantly, they can change the quality of your life. I cannot recommend it highly enough.”

– Jack Canfield, Author of Chicken Soup for the Soul Series.

  • What is Nonviolent Communication (NVC)?

    • Nonviolent Communication was developed by Marshall B. Rosenberg, PhD, in the 1960s, and now is in active use globally.
    • NVC is about connecting with ourselves and others from the heart. It enables us to see the humanity in everyone however they may be expressing themselves.

    • NVC is more than a communication process… it is a way of being, rooted in human values

    • NVC offers a reliable framework for thinking, talking and acting in the world, that supports authenticity, mutual understanding and conflict resolution.

      • It is based on the notion that we share the same fundamental Human Needs (motivators for our actions and words), and mutual understanding becomes possible when we focus our open-hearted attention on these underlying motivators.

    • NVC is about connecting with ourselves and others from the heart. It enables us to see the humanity in everyone however they may be expressing themselves.

    • While very simple, NVC offers a framework to reconnect us to the needs behind our own or another’s behavior, even in the most difficult of interactions.

  • Heartful Communication uses NVC structure, and this will not change.

    • Heartful Communication uses the NVC framework, and this is unlikely to change. Therefore, abhyasis can learn the basics from any certified NVC trainer or program.

    • For Heartful Communication, we are applying the same NVC structure – syntax and process – while making it relevant to our shared spiritual path, through examples, principles and quotes from our teachers.

    • HC learning and integration is an ongoing process: Even after having “learned” the structure and process, it takes repeated practice to form new habits of thought and speech. Over time, our relationship to ourselves and others can change to reflect a worldview where everything and everyone is connected.

  • Who is this for?

    • Heartful Communication is offered to abhyasis worldwide, i.e. those who practice Heartfulness Meditation. At this time, there is no public offering of HC. Everyone is welcome to learn and try out Heartfulness Meditation.

  • Who can teach Heartful Communication?

    • Within Heartfulness, Trainings and Practice groups will be led by HC Facilitators, who have background and experience with both NVC and HFN.

    • The HC Steering Team is responsible for assessing and training HC Facilitator candidates.
